This treatment involves taking a diagnostic model of your mouth and creating custom-made whitening trays from soft, durable plastic. The trays are filled with a peroxide-based gel before each use.
Teeth whitening contains one of two active ingredients: carbamide peroxide or hydrogen peroxide.
Carbamide peroxide contains hydrogen peroxide, so any product that includes three parts carbamide peroxide will have about one-part hydrogen peroxide.
Both ingredients can produce the same whitening results.
Your lifestyle and your oral hygiene regimen will determine how long teeth whitening effects last. If you smoke or drink a lot of coffee or tea or take medication the results may not last as long.
If you do periodic whitening at home to touch-up your results (around every 4 to 6 months), your teeth can stay white for longer.
